Accor Hotels Beijing – The Big Four Accor Hotels Beijing

Accor Hotels Beijing – There are currently 4 Accors Hotel now inBeijing. One just recently opened for business in year 2008, ready forOlympics. The hotels are

1. Hotel Sofitel Wanda Beijing

2. Hotel Novotel Peace Beijing

3. Hotel Novotel Xin Qiao Beijing

4. Hotel Mercure Wanshang Beijing - Opening in February 2008

Well, let me introduce Hotel Sofitel Wanda Beijing first.

Hopefully, I will be able to give you a review of all four of them in the near future.

Hotel Sofitel Wanda Beijing – Firstly, it’s a new hotel when I stayed over and it was not really ready. At best, I would rate the hotel as a 4 Stars as it has many teething problems. However, to be fair to them, my friend who recently stayed there was happy with the hotel. So, maybe the hotel has cleaned up its act and it’s still worth the money!

Location – The hotel is situated in a good location in Chaoyang. However, it is not very convenient if you are looking for a hotel near tourist attractions as compared to say, Capital Hotel Beijing. Be prepared to spend on taxi if you need to travel.

One plus point for some- the hotel is nearby the US supermarket Walmart.

Sofitel Wanda Beijing

First Impression - The high-ceiling lobby is stylishly decorated with beautiful chandeliers, tastefully-designed draperies, and artistic lighting. Very pompous-looking.

You tend to expect a lot from the hotel, if you judge based on the grandeur of the lobby. I guess that was why I felt disappointed (“cheated”) when I stayed on.

Room - The room was badly designed but that is a matter of taste (I read too much Interior Design Magazines and that accounts for my picky attitude). What was intolerable is the dust that is present in my room. I had to call the housekeeping to remedy the situation.

And even that was not enough. I guess with so many constructions going around in Beijing for the Olympics 2008, my room was dusty during my 2 days stay. I left the next day due to my sinus problem caused by the dusty room.

The Good Points - I could watch movies and news on a large flat screenTV on my very comfortable bed. In addition, I had free wifi and cableTV for the bath tub too. Of course, you do pay for such luxury.(Average price: US$ 260)

Staff – Overall, the staff were friendly but still inexperienced. Iguess most of them were new to the hotel too. Some of the staff seemedincapable of holding a decent conversation in English. I guess for anInternational Hotel chain, they have to improve.

Food – I do not recommend eating in-house unless you do not mindspending loads. You have plenty of choices at much cheaper priceselsewhere. Explore true Beijing cuisine elsewhere. But if you insist, then eat at the restaurants here and pay US$ 30 for breakfast. Dinnercosts a lot more at US$ 100 per person.

Accor Hotels Beijing No.1 Verdict?

Overall, it is hard to recommend this hotel when I was sick with sinus/runny nose throughout the 2 days there. However, the hotel seemed to bemuch improved according to a reliable source (my friend), so it is upto you to make a decision…

NO.93 Jiang Guo Road, Beijing, 100022, P.R.C.
