Anyway, my experience tells me that it’s good to tell the Chinese girls that your Chinese is crap. And you know it’s probably true.

How do you say “Pardon me, my Chinese is crap.” in Chinese?

- "Dui bu qi, wo de pu tong hua bu hao." – Sorry, my Chinese is no good.

- "Dui bu qi" – Sorry

- "Wo de" - My

- "Pu tong hua" – Chinese Language

- "Bu Hao" – No Good

The Chinese girls will usually reply with a smile/giggle:" It’s good!" – "Hao!".

Please realize early that they are only patronizing you.

  • Please do not speak loudly and in a brash manner. I have seen some loud-mouthed Rednecks chatting up Chinese girls with no results! - Gentle is key to success.

  • As with most girls, speak slowly and allow the girls to respond. Even if the reply is in broken English, please try not to point out their mistakes during your first encounter/ date. Why? This can be seen as you trying to embarrass them - FACE VALUE Matters in China!

  • Speaking from experience, I usually compliment the Chinese girls for their spoken English, no matter how bad it may be. I guess you can see it as returning the favor to them for praising your badly spoken Chinese - Everyone loves to be complimented!

    You’re very sexy! – "Ni Hen Xing Gan!" (Sexy: "Xing Gan")-Used this term sparingly unless the girl is a real knockout! To some girls, the word “sexy” could be rude but I guess the Chinese gals are much more open than before especially in Beijing and Shanghai.


    You’re very slim – "Ni Hen Miao Tiao" (Slim: "Miao Tiao")


    Your English is very good – "Ni De Ying Yu Hen Hao" (English: "Ying Yu") – They love to hear this! I lie almost all the time, including my wife.


    You’re very fair – "Ni Hen Bai" (literal translation - You’re very white)


    Are you a model? - "Ni Shi Mo Te r?" (Model: "Mo Te r", trust me girls love this best!)


    You’re the BEST! – "Ni Zui Hao" ("Zui" means Most)


    You’re the most beautiful girl - "Ni Zui Piao Liang!"
