Budget Hotels Beijing – My Earlier Days in China (Staying in Beijing on a Budget)
Budget Hotels Beijing Report - My first impression of budget hotels Beijing Saga International Youth Hostel was pretty good (this was a while back without much money in my pocket) as it feels more like a two-star hotel compared to hostels I have seen in Singapore. As it is situated in the historical area in Beijing, it was a breath of fresh air for city dwellers like me. At the Hostel, the usual guests are young backpackers who are friendly and eager to talk about their adventures in China / Asia. Being a young backpacker then, there was a real sense of community and many stories/ tips were traded.
Miss those days! My friend and I booked a double room with private bathroom. The room has a TV, air-conditioner/radiator, a hard bed with bed linen and disposable slippers provided. (Average Price: Twin for US$25 per night checked at time of writing) Take note: Bring your own towels and mosquito repellents. I was there during the summer and mosquitoes were flying everywhere. They do bite especially when you’re sleeping. I am sure the mosquitoes are still there feasting on a good spread of International Buffet every night. For those who are used to a very high standard of sanitary, the toilet will be an unforgettable experience for you. The wall was moldy and the place STUNK! I guess it has to do with the old Beijing sewage system (I hope it is better now). Take note: If you can, bring your own toilet rolls as you may have to wait for a while before they send you a new roll. As for Internet access, there are only 4 computers and often booked solid all the time. I suggest you take a 5 minutes walk to one of the Internet bars and do your blogging/emailing there. It is cheaper any way. You can do your laundry - free washing powder and only US$1.5 per load. For food, you can have American and continental style breakfasts though service is slow. Hey, you are in Beijing to experience life so what’s the hurry? I did and I enjoy every minute of it! PS: I will not recommend this hotel for family vacation with kids. However, the area was rather safe as it was next to a police station. NO.9, Shijia Hutong, Beijing, 100035, P.R.C. Tel: +86 10 6527 2773 or +86 10 6524 9098
