Four Star Hotels in Beijing - Capital Hotel Beijing?

Four Star Hotels in Beijing - My elder brother, wife and 3 kids came to visit me last year. Asked me for a good hotel. So, after some info gathering from my friends (one of them is working there and had a discount for me), I chose Capital Hotel Beijing. It was a relatively easy choice as with the discount, I saved a lot of money.

Location: My sis-in-law insisted a hotel near to the Forbidden City. So, Capital was the best choice! It is easy to find. Just get near Forbidden City and pass the name of the Hotel in Chinese and people will direct you. If you are taking a taxi, the drivers will know this place.

Rooms: The hotel just undergone some major remodeling and thus, what we saw was a really grand and up-market hotel (honestly it looks better than some 5 star hotels I have stayed in China) The rooms were first class with comfortable beds (Average price: US$ 110 per night).

Capital Hotel Beijing

You have your usual mini-bar and all. Best of all, the bathrooms! They were HUGE compared to other hotels. With a large bathtub and all, my nephews and nieces were having a great time “swimming”.

Though, one thing irked my sis-in-law. The smell coming out from the hotel vents. This is a big problem in Beijing due to its old sewage system. That’s how I explained to her.

Facilities: The hotel has a decent-sized swimming pool and a bowling alley (a rarity in hotels around the world). My brother’s family has a great time bowling when they are not walking around exploring the sights.

There’s also a jewelry store within the hotel but I guess you will have more fun than splurging on pearls and jades which can really burn a hole in your pocket (I am addressing to the guys out there with your wives!)

Service: The staff was helpful and we were quite satisfied that most of them can answer our queries in fairly good English. The concierge was also very helpful and he arranged most of my brother’s trips within the city. It was always done with a smile and really made their day.

Food and Drinks: There are a few restaurants in the hotel with a wide variety of food, ranging from Chinese to Western meals. Try dinning in the restaurant at the top of the hotel and enjoy magnificent view of Tiananmen Square at night.

Note: Leave the kids with someone to baby-sit for a romantic dinner. I was the babysitter for my brother and his wife that night. What’s the Four Star Hotels in Beijing Verdict?

My brother’s family enjoyed the whole trip, thanks to the concierge of the Capital Hotel Beijing. And without any reservation, they will stay there again the next time round. Who knows, they may visit me during the Beijing Olympics 2008?
