Silk Street Beijing –Why I Avoid this Place

Silk Street Beijing – I do not usually bad-mouth anyone or shops but Silk Street in Beijing is one of the rare few. The best part of all, Silk Street was built for foreigners like you and me.

Silk Street is a Mall selling almost everything and that includes counterfeit designers’ clothes Chinese artwork, designer leather bags, sportswear, kitchen appliances, electronic and lots more.

Silk Street

Where variety is concerned, I have no complaints about Silk Street.

So, what’s wrong with this place?

Prices!

At the Silk Street (or Xiu shui Jie), the starting price is about US$ 60 for counterfeit Tommy Hilfiger Polo T-shirts. Of course, you can bargain them down by half or more (that is if you are good at bargaining), but it is still expensive buying fake goods compared to elsewhere in Beijing.

Do not be fooled by them.

They are FAKES and you will do much better buying them at Xidan Market (please read Beijing Shopping Guide). And you can probably get the same stuff for much less.

It is like a lion’s den for overseas shoppers!

Ask around if you do not believe me.

If you still want to go shopping there, go ahead.

Silk Street Location - Silk Street is located at 8 East Xiu Shui Street, Jian Guo Men Wai Da Jie. Anyway, it is east of Tiananmen Square.
